I have blogged a couple of times about what life is like here at the carnival. Well this last week we have had something really sad happen here. We lost one of our own, it initial word is that he had a heart attack, but we will not know for certain until all the labs come back in 4 – 6 weeks. Tom was 38 years old. He was preceeded in death by both of his parents and his sister is the last family that is still around. She is also “in the business” as it is called but things are hard for them as well. I can not imagine how hard it must be to bury all of your blood relatives. Tom was a sweet guy that should have lived to be an old man. Here is a picture of him on the ride he ran, Winky the Whale it is a kiddie ride.
He had sprained his ankle on Sunday and was told to go lay down and put ice on it. One of the guys here Danny went in to change clothes around 8 PM that evening and he was fine, when the boss went to see if he was feeling better sometime around 9 PM or so he was dead. It was a big shock to everyone here. The sad part is, his sister does not even have the money to bury him with. But being a family like we are here, we have raised some money between us all to help with the expences. I really hope that we can come up with enough to help her out. Please pray for his sister that she will be alright and that she can come up with the money to lay him to rest.
Thanks

about 5yrs ago Strates Brother’s Lost one of the Own in Syracuse NY a Ride Called the Enterprise Fell pinning a young man under it a few days before His birthday. That Person Was my younger brother. The whole family at some point in our lives worked for these people. Strates told my mother not worry who saw my brother 45min before the accident and spent time with him before he died that they would pay for all the Funeral costs and allow everyone working for them and on the independent midway to come to the visiting hours and wake. Both of which they reneged on and left my mom and alot of his friends screwed. I havent stepped foot on a Carnival circuit sense. granted if i went home i can attend the fair and rides for free. I feel for you in more ways then i can explain.

I have worked for Strates Shows in the past myself and I can believe it. I am so sorry for your loss and can understand where it makes you want to stay away from the carnival altogether.
